The standard CRMD gent costume consists of a pair of black jeans, a western belt, black cowboy boots, western shirt and a black choker scarf.
The western shirt needs to be long sleeved, and the sleeves need to be long enough that when unfastened, the sleeves will fall to
halfway between the wrist bone and the first knuckle.
Eventually, the gents will also need a fringe shirt and a godet shirt. Fabric requirements for each type are 1 yard of the yoke color and
2 1/2 yards for the body and sleeve color. The fringe shirt will also require 1/2 yard of black Ultrasuede material.
The godet (go day) shirt uses a solid color and a coordinating pattern fabric with floral or some other natural pattern
(no rodeo riders or cowboy boots, etc.) The solid must be a true, clear color from the red, green, blue or purple color families. The pattern
designs should be at least an inch in diameter, not so tiny as to fade into solid from a distance. The pattern may be one way or two way.
A two way fabric will appear essentially the same whether it is aligned up or down (flower blossoms or paisleys). A one way pattern will
appear upside down if turned upside down (flowers with stems or butterflies).
A cotton/polyester blend will always be better than straight cotton, especially when it comes time
to iron the shirt.
Always prewash the fabric and run it through the drier before cutting and sewing to allow
the fabric to shrink before use.
An easy alternative for the godet shirt is to purchase a solid color western shirt (Applying the directions above). Then purchase a 1 yard piece
of a coordinating pattern fabric and overlay the pattern fabric over the yokes and cuffs of the purchased shirt.
